Alzental Syrup

Alzental is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic medication that contains albendazole as its active ingredient. It is effective against a variety of parasitic infections, including nematodes (roundworms) and some cestodes (tapeworms). Alzental works by disrupting the microtubule formation in parasites, inhibiting their ability to absorb glucose and other nutrients, ultimately leading to their death.

Dosage Form:
- Formulation: Oral suspension
- Concentration: Typically available in 400 mg per 10 ml.

Indications
Alzental syrup is indicated for the treatment of:
- Enterobiasis (Pinworm Infection)
- Ascariasis (Roundworm Infection)
- Ancylostomiasis (Hookworm Infection)
- Trichuriasis (Whipworm Infection)
- Strongyloidiasis (Threadworm Infection)
- Taeniasis (Tapeworm Infection)
- Capillariasis
- Neurocysticercosis (caused by pork tapeworms)
- Hydatid Disease (Echinococcus granulosus)
- Filariasis (in combination with other anthelmintics)

Dosage and Administration
- Adults and Children Over 2 Years: 400 mg as a single dose for most infections.
- Children Up to 2 Years: 200 mg as a single dose.
- For specific conditions like neurocysticercosis or hydatid disease, the dosing regimen may vary:
- Neurocysticercosis: 15 mg/kg/day for 30 days.
- Hydatid Disease: Doses depend on body weight, typically 400 mg twice daily for patients over 60 kg.

Warnings and Precautions
- Pregnant Women: Should not use unless clearly necessary; consult a healthcare provider.
- Patients with Liver Disease: Should be monitored closely due to potential liver toxicity.

Drug Interactions
Alzental may interact with other medications, particularly those that can affect liver enzymes. It is important to inform healthcare providers about all medications being taken.
